Product Description:

The Mud Bug is a finesse jig trailer with a lot of claw action made to replicate a spring time crawfish; it is the larger version of the Baby Mud Bug. The Mud Bug always looks alive when trailing behind a jig because of its design and buoyancy. The live action of the Mud Bug will always yield more strikes over a bait that looks dead. When the bait comes to rest in the water, the design and the buoyancy of the claws allow the bait it to assume a defensive posture with the claws raised up, behaving just like a live crawfish when it feels threaten by a fish — that's exactly what you want because when the fish see these raised claws, its reaction strike time!

Fishing Tips:

The Mud Bug, with its defensive posture, will pose a threat to the spawning fish triggering a strike. Spawning fish will often strike the bait to kill it and get it out of its space and not eat it, especially spawning female fish. If you try to set the hook and miss the fish, just leave the bait in the fishes space and many times the fish will return to strike again. The Mud Bug should be rigged on a 1/4 to 1 ounce jig. If you use a pointed head jig without a flat side on the bottom of its head, that jig will lay over on its side when you stop it in the water – our jig trailers trailers will stop that from happening. The buoyancy of the Mud Bug will stabilize a properly sized and weighted jig, preventing the jig from laying over on its side.

The Mud Bug is a good bed fishing bait. When flippin’ the Mud Bug in beds, use a light bright color. The light color is primarily for you to see the bait (called sight fishing) because you are trying to trigger a reaction strike anyway and the color won’t make much of a difference to the fish when flippin’ the bait in beds. As long as you and the fish can see the bait, you will know when the bait is in the mouth of the fish – when it disappears from your sight. Fish the bait weightless by just hooking the bait through the end with the point exposed so the hook doesn’t stiffen the bait, allowing the bait to exhibit 100% of its action. Let the hook be the only weight and since the hook is exposed, you don't have to set the hook, just tighten up on the line and many times the fish will set the hook for you. Don’t bother rigging the bait weedless because most fishing beds are clean, but if you need to rig it weedless just slip the point of the hook up under and into the head of the bait.
